Episode 1
In this series, we dive deep with Robert Milam, Founder of ModestWorks – the creative agency that brought our brand to life – to explore the journey from idea to reality, including all the intricate details behind the design, name, colors, and more.

“Dallas has always been an underdog. When John Neely Bryan founded Dallas in the mid-1800s, he came here thinking that he was going to be starting this great trading post. When he got here, there was no one here. He had originally visited the area and there were a group of indigenous people who were trading on the banks of the Trinity. And he said, “This is going to be awesome. I’m going to go back home and I’m going to prepare to come down here and develop this.” He goes back two years later. He comes back just him and his dog. Gets to the banks of the Trinity. The people are gone. There’s no trace. These were nomadic people, but he didn’t know that. And so instead of packing up and going home, he decided to make camp there on the banks of the Trinity. Spent a year trying to farm food to survive. Again, just him and his dog. And eventually he convinced a group of people who were living at a fort northeast of Dallas to come down to the banks of the Trinity with him. Because of John Neely Bryan’s dumb will and hard-headedness, he made Dallas a reality.”
“Dallas siempre ha sido el que va contra todo pronóstico. Cuando John Neely Bryan fundó Dallas a mediados de 1800, vino aquí pensando que iba a comenzar este gran puesto comercial. Cuando llegó aquí, no había nadie. Originalmente había visitado el área y había un grupo de indígenas que comerciaban a orillas del Trinity. Y él dijo: “Esto va a ser increíble. Episode 2
In this episode, ModestWorks founder Robert Milam, tells the story of how the wolf and snake became part of the Atlético Dallas crest.
En este episodio, Robert Milam, fundador de ModestWorks, cuenta la historia de cómo el lobo y la serpiente se convirtieron en parte del escudo del Atlético Dallas.
“What were the top predators in the area time when we were being inspired by So we’re being inspired by the development of Dallas. When it was first founded, this area was home to the Mexican Grey Wolf. That was the apex predator, not the coyote. Now the coyote is, but then the apex predator was the Grey Wolf. I didn’t even know that until we did that research. But then when we kind of combine that with these images we were seeing of the coyotes and the snakes in battle, I started to do research on are there wolves that now fight snakes and what’s the what’s really happening. That is a true thing that happens. Not because the rattlesnake wants to fight the wolf, it’s because the wolf wants to eat the rattlesnake. The really cool thing is that the rattlesnake can kill the wolf and will kill the wolf in defense. And so even though most of the time the wolf is going to get the upper hand, the truth is the rattlesnake can kill it. And we felt like that was a beautiful picture of an underdog story of a new team coming into the USL Championship, but also it’s a historical connection to Dallas.”
“¿Cuáles eran los principales depredadores en el área en el momento en que nos inspiraba Así que nos inspira el desarrollo de Dallas? Cuando se fundó por primera vez, esta área era el hogar del lobo gris mexicano. Ese era el depredador ápice, no el coyote. Ahora el coyote lo es, pero entonces el depredador ápice era el Lobo Gris. Ni siquiera lo sabía hasta que hicimos esa investigación. Pero luego, cuando combinamos eso con estas imágenes que estábamos viendo de los coyotes y las serpientes en la batalla, comencé a investigar si hay lobos que ahora luchan contra las serpientes y qué es lo que realmente está sucediendo. Eso es algo cierto que sucede. No porque la serpiente de cascabel quiera luchar contra el lobo, es porque el lobo quiere comerse a la serpiente de cascabel. Lo realmente genial es que la serpiente de cascabel puede matar al lobo y matará al lobo en defensa. Y así, aunque la mayoría de las veces el lobo va a tomar la delantera, la verdad es que la serpiente de cascabel puede matarlo. Y sentimos que esa era una hermosa imagen de una historia de un nuevo equipo que llega al Campeonato de la USL a luchar contra todo pronóstico, pero también es una conexión histórica con Dallas”.
Episode 3
In this episode, Robert Milam, founder of ModestWorks, shows the journey from the initial sketches to our final crest design. We collaborated with English heraldic artist, Tom Meek, to design a crest that pays tribute to the centuries-old tradition of Heraldry – a practice that shaped government seals, coats of arms, and other significant emblems throughout the histories of Europe and Mexico. After countless revisions, napkin sketches, and late-night emails, the final artwork was born.
En este episodio, Robert Milam, fundador de ModestWorks, muestra el viaje desde los bocetos iniciales hasta nuestro diseño final de la cresta. Colaboramos con el artista heráldico inglés Tom Meek para diseñar un escudo que rinde homenaje a la tradición centenaria de la heráldica, una práctica que dio forma a los sellos, escudos de armas y otros emblemas importantes del gobierno a lo largo de las historias de Europa y México. Después de innumerables revisiones, bocetos en servilletas y correos electrónicos nocturnos, nació la obra de arte final.
“And so here’s the original drawings and the original hand painted crest. This was the original one. And in this one, the snake is actually wrapping around the wolf. And it’s incredible considering how beautiful this is done and delicately it’s painted. But like that’s the sketch of the final painting. Not even the final painting. This is the sketch. Here is the final art. If you look at it, it’s really a work of art. This is one of one. There is no other. And it’s a really beautiful piece of history for the club.”
“Y aquí están los dibujos originales y el escudo original pintado a mano. Este fue el original. Y en este, la serpiente en realidad está envolviendo al lobo. Y es increíble teniendo en cuenta lo hermoso que está hecho y lo delicadamente pintado. Pero ese es el boceto de la pintura final. Ni siquiera la pintura final. Este es el boceto.
